We celebrated Emmie's 6th birthday. I love this park location! And dreamed up a little party here under the trees. The theme was a garden tea party. The colors were lilac and green with gold.
The invitations were garden seed packets with seeds inside {purple candy coated sunflower seeds}.
I used a real garden seed packet for a template and folded my paper into an envelope. And filled it with seeds. They kind of looked real, it was a good start for the party. The information on the back gave a nod to planting directions... Where to plant: park location, When to plant: time of the party, How to tend: RSVP, and Garden hints: stating that the seeds in this packet were edible.
She is growing up a little bit. She looks the same, just bigger. She is still feisty, just feistier. I love her, just more.
I was a little embarrassed how homemade the party had become. I'm just glad no one asked.. did you make that? Because I did to all of it. I secretly love making. It takes my midnights, but it is the way to make things the way you dream them up in your head. Like her dress for instance. I wanted to buy the $54 one that looked like this made out of vintage fabric. But couldn't. So I pulled up the picture online, parked my sewing machine nearby and came up with this one. I love it. I didn't even notice until bed that night that she had been wearing it backwards all day! The front just had more of a V shape to it.
The paper parasols were hung upside down from the trees.
I made the tablecloth and pretty green napkins.
I thought she needed a birthday crown. I wanted to make one out of crepe paper, but couldn't find it anywhere. So I used felt, ribbon, butterflies and a gold button.
The table was set with:Teacups which all came from a thrift store. We scored that day and there a teapot as well. Emmie spotted all of it, she had so much fun shopping. To make them all match I used a glossy cream spray paint.

Blackberry macaroons, mmm. They really do taste good. And I think blackberry is my best flavor to date.

We played potato sack races with 2 teams. {I recycled the table cloth of burlap from Emmie's party last year and turned it into the sacks for the game}. The girls loved this. It was even better with shoes off.
Each girl planted her own flowers in a pot to take home.
The pots were just tera cota that I sprayed white and roughed up a bit to make them look aged.
Bamboo butterfly nets tied with ribbons. Gladly there were butterflies all over the park. But we also threw down some gold butterflies from the tree for the girls to take turns catching.
We had a pinata. Mostly because I saw this somewhere and thought it was cute and knew I would be able to hang it from the trees. I bought a baseball pinata (for the round shape) and removed the baseballness (actually Finn started in the back of the cart before we ever purchased it, but I had a vision and it was ok). Then I put circles of tissue on it from the bottom up.
Kids just love a pinata!
These berry baskets were marked with a name tag and tied with purple bakers twine for the girls to put their prizes in.
Prizes. Once again with the spray paint... I had to spray paint the bangles gold (purchased in the kids section at walmart) since the only girl's size gold bracelets are made out of real gold!
The berets turned out darling. I ordered flowers and gold bobby pins on etsy and just put them together with superglue. I sewed a couple of pieces of card stock together in a decorative stitch to hold the bobby pins.
Gumball necklaces.

These little paper boxes with a glittery sticker were for the gumball necklaces.
Her birthday cake was so fun to make! I just frosted roses all around and there was a surprise on the inside. The green ribbon on the flag I've been saving for something special. It was from my Grandma Johnson. Maybe one day I'll be able to use the rest on a dress.
I believe in wishes. I hope she made a good one when she blew out her candles!
After the cake was frosted all I heard from Finn was, "Mom can I have a lick? Mom can I have a lick?"
Voilla! Layers of purple inside the cake! {I decided to keep the outside white so the inside could be the star!} I think I wanted a better picture, but once I started dishing it out everyone wanted their cake and I was lucky to get this shot.
He never ceases to crack me up. After the party I took a load of items back to the car and found Finn having his own little tea party. Of course I did leave him the teapot of juice and a tea cup, because he wanted to play with it so bad!
