finn's 2nd birthday

a little while ago Finn turned 2

it was a Curious George birthday this time

Presenting... his cake!
It always takes me hours to make the cake.
But it is something I love to do for my kids. (There is always the moment in the whee of the night when I think, I am buying a cake next year... but I never do I always get involved in the making again).
Karina and Valorie stayed up late with me, watching me demonstrate "how to not do fondant".
Somehow it turned out.

I made a banner using the font from the Curious George books.

(I believe a good party is all about details).

I revamped the trike for his birthday present. It was loved in pink (as you can tell by this cute little Anna in rain gear a few years ago)!

Ta-da!

I love how it turned out! We had put it away a while ago. So I'm sure he thinks this trike was all for him. And it was. I wanted it to turn out really nice. So I didn't just spray paint it (nothing against that I love spray painting). I just took this to the next level... I began by taking it apart (well Ben did). Then sandblasting the metal pieces. That is where we said goodbye pink bike! My mind went crazy thinking of what I could do and change with a sandblaster. Of course it helps to have a father in law with a shop and a very nice brother in law who will show you the tools and teach you how to use them (Scott). My face got a little pelted. But it seemed much like an exfoliation. Next. I took the bare metal home and in my basement when kids were asleep I primed it with metal primer. And then sprayed it with auto paint. Which is amazing! It comes in endless color options. The kickboard was sanded and stained. I love the end result! Which I had to because it is hard to change a cute little pink trike.

And Finn loved it, he calls it his bike.

Finn is the happiest kid! I hope he always stays this way!
